Rajasthani Block Printing

Our Rajasthan block printing workshop begins with storytelling, where participants learn about the rich history and cultural significance of this ancient craft, passed down through generations in villages like Bagru and Sanganer. Next, they select traditional wooden blocks with intricate motifs and prepare vibrant, natural dyes, setting the foundation for their prints. The hands-on stamping phase follows, where participants dip their blocks in dye and carefully print patterns on fabric, mastering alignment and layering to create beautiful, multi-colored designs. Finally, the fabric is dried and finished, with participants taking home their unique, hand-block printed pieces—a vibrant embrace of Rajasthan’s textile heritage brought to life by their own hands.

Storytelling

Begin with the enchanting story of Rajasthan’s hand block printing—how families in villages like Bagru and Sanganer have passed down this colorful craft through generations. Share tales of motifs inspired by flowers, peacocks, and palace life, and how artisans mix natural dyes and carve intricate blocks by hand, blending art with everyday life.

Block Selection & Color Preparation

Participants get to select their favorite wooden blocks from an array of traditional and contemporary motifs. Learn how to prepare the fabric and mix vibrant, eco-friendly dyes, just as Rajasthani artisans have for centuries. This step sets the stage for each print to be unique and meaningful.

 Stamping & Printing

Get hands-on with the printing process—dip the carved blocks in colorful dye, press firmly on fabric, and repeat to create stunning patterns. Learn how to align and layer prints for multi-colored designs while enjoying the rhythmic, mindful process that lies at the heart of Rajasthani block printing.

Drying, Finishing & Takeaway

Let the prints dry in the open air, then complete your pieces with simple finishing touches—ironing, washing, or even adding embellishments. Each participant leaves with their own vibrant, hand-block printed fabric, a piece of Rajasthan’s living heritage crafted by their own hands.
